SKOKIE FIRE OPS 101 was a very unique, action-packed, educational event that allowed Skokie elected officials and administrators to spend a day alongside a fire fighter/paramedic, experiencing first hand the work they do every day. Everyone suited up in fire fighter gear and for five hours, climbed ladders in a rescue, swung axes to release heat from the roof of a burning building, connected and hauled water hoses up three flights of stairs, administered CPR, opened a badly damaged vehicle using the ‘jaws of life’ and donned self-contained breathing apparatus to go inside a real fire. The immersion experience gave everyone a true sense of the rigors and danger of protecting a community from fire.

Real Training Exercises

Firefighter training exercises are essential for keeping firefighters fit, safe, and ready for any emergency. They help firefighters develop strength, endurance, agility, and coordination. Some of the best exercises for firefighters use firehouse equipment, such as hoses, packs, ladders, and foam pails.

The Academy

These exercises mimic the movements and challenges that firefighters face on the job. For example, stair runs with packs improve cardiovascular fitness and leg power, while battle ropes using hoses work the whole body and core stability. Firefighter training exercises are fun, effective, and rewarding!
